Welcome to our chat!
Abbot's Place is not your typical BDSM chat space. While there is play and D/s discussion, we're not about BDSM to the exclusion of all else. What you'll find here is a group of friendly people and a spot where you can talk about pretty much anything that interests you... including BDSM.
Because Abbot's Place might be a little different from what you're used to, there are a few things you should know. Please take a minute or two to read over these points, and then respect them.

If you're using our Java chat client, you have access to four channels. #Abbot's_Place is our original chat room, relocated from About.com in January of 2001. It's for gathering with friends and friends-to-be for chat, companionship, mutual support, asking questions, and offering answers. Scenes do happen here, but we ask that anything intense or blatenly sexual be taken private or to #The_Dungeon. #Abbot's_Place is where those new to the scene can get questions answered, and we don't want to frighten off timid newbies with public ball-crushing scenes and the like.
#The_Dungeon is a spin-off room intended specifically for play. If you'd like to do a scene, this is the place. If you're more comfortable where a lot of play acting, "Sirs" and "Ma'ams," and bowing and serving go on, this is probably where you'll want to settle in. (You're also welcome to chat about life in general here, but if someone's involved in a scene, please take your conversation private or move it to #Abbot's_Place.)
#S&L_Chat is the chat channel for the Savvie and Lacey Webcomic. It's primarily for discussing the comic, but no one will get upset if you talk BDSM or fetishes... after all, that's what Savvie and Lacey is about!
#rubberist.net is the primary chat channel for the International Association of Rubberists, a site for people interested in looking at, wearing, and playing in and with latex. Tbey were ousted from their former chat space in early 2002 when it went pay, and we offered them a place to chat. We're not affiliated with them in any way, but we do have a crossover agreement between all our sites' chat spaces. Drop by; they're friendly folks and there's a lot of BDSM interest.

If you prefer using a stand-alone IRC client to reach any of our channels, just set your server to irc.savvieandlacey.net, port 6667.

Most of the rest of what you need to know about our chat is -- or should be -- common sense. If in doubt, ask! You'll find most of the chatters here to be friendly, outgoing, and more than willing to help. (If you pop in while a lot of existing conversations are going on, you might get the impression that we're "cliquish," but rest assured we aren't. Ask anyone who used to be a newcomer just like you... and stayed. Please don't judge on first appearances; stop by a few times and get to know us.)
Welcome to Abbot's Place. Enjoy your stay.
