Performing a Simple Search

To do a quick search, just type what you're looking for in the Search box [1], then click Search All [2] (don't hit <Enter>). This will search every field of every record in the database, ignoring case. Note, however, that you can't search on a single character Setting up a search (which wouldn't make much sense anyway).

If you want to look for something else just repeat the above steps; there's no need to reload the database. If you'd like to see the entire contents of the database after you've done a search, click Show All to restore the full database list.

If any records match your search term, the results will be displayed in the list in the center bottom of the floating window. Using the results Notice that there is a small blue triangle pointing at the first record [3]. This selects which record is displayed in the detail window above the list [4]. This smaller window shows all available information about the selected record, including any memo data that might be attached. Use the scroll bar to the right of the detail window to see all of the information.

To change which record is displayed, simply click on the one you want in the thin vertical column containing the triangle. The triangle will jump to the record you select.

Notice that the list has scroll bars in both directions. You can use these to move through the list if it's too long to fit in the window. Another way to move, and to move the blue selection triangle, is with the positioning buttons [D]. The ">" button moves the blue triangle down (forward) one record, while the "<" button moves the blue triangle up (back) one record. Similarly, the ">>" selects the final record, while "<<" selects the first record. In each case, the results window will scroll as necessary to keep the blue triangle and the selected record within view.
