Using the Results
If any records match your search term, the results will be displayed in the list in the center bottom of the floating window.
Notice that there is a small blue triangle pointing at the first record [3]. This selects which record is displayed in the detail window above the list [4]. This smaller window shows all available information about the selected record, including any memo data that might be attached. Use the scroll bar to the right of the detail window to see all of the information.
To change which record is displayed, simply click on the one you want in the thin vertical column containing the triangle. The triangle will jump to the record you select. With most browsers, you can also use the up and down arrows on your keyboard to move from record to record and the left and right arrows to move from field to field.
Notice that the list has scroll bars in both directions. You can use these to move through the list if it's too long to fit in the window. Another way to move, and to move the blue selection triangle, is with the positioning buttons [D]. The ">" button moves the blue triangle down (forward) one record, while the "<" button moves the blue triangle up (back) one record. Similarly, the ">>" selects the final record, while "<<" selects the first record. In each case, the results window will scroll as necessary to keep the blue triangle and the selected record within view.
Towards the right of each record is a field for a URL. If a record has an associated Web page, you'll see at least the first part of the address in this column in blue. Clicking the URL will open a new browser window and load the associated Web page.
To the right of the URL column is a field for an email address. To use an email address, click on that space (or use the arrow keys to highlight the field). The field will change color and expand if necessary so you can read the entire address; the email address will also appear in the detail window above. (Clicking on a space to see the entire contents also works in other fields.) You can copy the address from the detail window and paste it into the "To:" field of an email message.
(The methods for copying and pasting vary depending on your computer and software. As an example, under Windows 95, point to the right of the email address in the detail window. Click and hold the left mouse button and sweep the pointer leftward across the email address, which should turn white-on-blue. Release the left mouse button and the address should remain highlighted. Press the <Ctrl> and C keys at the same time; this copies the address. Click in your email client's "To:" field, then press the <Ctrl> and V keys at the same time. This will deposit the address, and you're ready to compose your email message.)
You can use this same copy-and-paste technique to extract a mailing address for addressing a letter or envelope, or to copy any information displayed in the detail window.
